In 1999 the Southampton University of Change Ringers completed a project to hang a mini-ring of twelve bells in the Union building. The impetus for this project was the lack of a dedicated tower for the University ringers to regularly practice upon. The bells were cast by Richard Bowditch and Matthew Higby and hung in a freestanding fabricated steel frame by Matthew Higby in a room in the Students Union.
