| A significant aspect of the project to install the bells is
to create a centre of teaching excellence for ringing in Birmingham.
During 2006 it is intended to found the Birmingham School of
Ringing based at St Paul's. The tower contains an historic "school
room" beneath the ringing chamber, where a former priest
taught over 2000 children to read and write in the 19th century.
This room is to be refurbished and equiped with modern training
facilities including two dumb-bells and a simulator.
The school will eventually run courses including the training
of new ringers, teaching good practice - "training the trainers",
belfry maintenance, ringing history and ringing theory. It is
intended to promote the art of change-ringing not only within
the city of Birmingham, but within the region and also to contribute
at a national scale. |
